Depending on the type of Aeromed jet aircraft and depending on where we’re flying, if we’re flying overseas generally we will only take one passenger. If we’re flying a few hours flight in the United States and it’s on a jet aircraft you can take two passengers. Depending on the medical, generally if the patient is on a ventilator or is in critical condition we’d like to limit it to one, just so that our crew will have more room to maneuver on the aircraft if something were to go wrong, and as for on a prop or turbo-prop, if we include two medical personnel onboard you can bring one passenger along.

When a patient needs to be transported with a respirator or ventilator, a Respiratory Therapist is required to treat the patient along with a nurse. We also provide Neonatal and Pediatric nurses to take care of infants in incubators. For Angel Flight emergency planes specialized physicians, such as Cardiologist, Neurologist, ER Physicians and or Orthopedists, are available upon request.
For your peace of mind, we can definitely supply a doctor onboard. However, we do not typically staff the carrier charters plane with a doctor. The reason that we don’t staff the aircraft with a doctor is because our RNs and paramedics are very qualified to deal with all types of patient care including emergency situations. Our medical director, Dr. Paul March is available 24 hours per day to receive calls from the flight crew and to assist their decision making if necessary.
If there’s bad weather prior to a trip taking place, we will know because as part of our pre trip checkout, we check on current and future weather conditions. If possible, we will plan air ambulance service services trip routes that avoid bad weather altogether. We do have the ability to fly over bad weather. If bad weather is going to occur at a landing or takeoff spot, we may delay a trip for the safety of the patient and crew until the weather clears up. If bad weather occurs during the flight, our aircraft are equipped with state of the art radar to avoid weather and we are constantly in contact with coordinators to ensure that our 20 year safety record remains solidly intact.
Our transport flights costs are included within our price. We like to take care of that up front so that as a customer you don’t have to worry about any type of outside charges. When we say we’re going to take care of everything for you, we’re going to include all of the ambulance transport, the cost of the medical crew, and all the equipment and the flight all within the same price. Some companies will include the cost of their medical crew going bedside but not the cost of the ambulances. We include both so that there are no hidden charges that will blindside you afterwards.
